Events mean Event Photography <3
Like so many photographers during the pre-vaccine days of covid, I had begun to wonder if I would ever find myself in rooms full of people again, let alone under joyous circumstances that required photographing. Thankfully, the hard work of scientists and healthcare providers and patience of British Columbians meant that Vancouverites were able to slowly return to being the vibrant community that we are much earlier than expected. I recently had the privilege of photographing West Coast Tap's annual showcase at the Scotiabank Dance Centre in downtown Vancouver. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to be back in a theatre after what feels to many, I'm sure, like a lifetime away from it.

Dancing the night away
The showcase featured dozens of talented performers of all ages, excited for their first performance since the pandemic. It was my first time - aside from the workshops that I photographed earlier in the day in the dance studios above the theatre- seeing tap dancing live. Hearing the rhythm of the taps echo in the auditorium scratched an itch in a neglected part of my brain. Feeling the rhythm of the whole company dancing in unison on the stage gently vibrated me in to connection with the world around me. How I missed being part of a live audience.
